BS 546:2025 Figure 21 withdrawal-pull gauge for effectiveness of contact, 15A current-carrying version, model SC-B5F21-15A-CC. The gauge is inserted into the current-carrying contact tube of a BS 546 socket-outlet and withdrawn; the contact tube must grip the pin of the plug firmly enough to produce the specified withdrawal force. The gauge is weighted so that the total weight W specified in Table 23 is reached, and the length “1” in Figure 21 is adjusted to make that total weight.
All dimensions and the gauge weight for the different current ratings and contact types are given in BS 546:2025 Table 23 (reproduced below). For the 15A current-carrying contact the values are A = 7.0 mm, C = 18.6 mm, D = 19.1 mm, W = 340 g and E = 4.0 mm.
