DIN VDE 0620-1 Bild 14 apparatus for measuring the contact pressure of side earth contacts (German: Beispiel einer Vorrichtung zur Messung der Kraft der seitlichen Schutzkontakte), model SC-VDE-B14. It is used to verify that the side earth contacts (seitliche Schutzkontakte) of German-standard socket-outlets keep reliable contact during normal insertion and use. According to DIN VDE 0620-1, the contact pressure of the side earth contacts shall be not less than 5 N on average.
Application / Test procedure
The apparatus consists of a body (Körper C), clamping screws (B), spacer plates (Abstandsplatte, 3 pcs of different sizes supplied), return springs (Rückstellfeder) and a force hook (H). Insert the apparatus into the socket-outlet under test and clamp it onto the side earth contact with the clamping screws B via the spacer plates, locating it by point F. Then hang a force gauge L on the hook H and apply the force tangentially; the force required to pull the earth contact away from its contact position is the contact pressure of that contact. Measure each side earth contact of the socket-outlet and take the mean value.
