IS 1293 Figure 9 Gauge for Checking Non-Accessibility of Live Parts Through Shutters SC-TT02

Standard requirement: IS 1293:2019 Plugs and Socket-Outlets of 2.5 A, 6 A and 16 A, 250 V (Indian Standard, harmonized with IEC 60884-1). Figures 9 and 10 of IS 1293 define spring-loaded gauges for checking the non-accessibility of live parts through shutters, and of live parts of socket-outlets with increased protection.
Application
The Figure 9 gauge verifies that the shutters of a socket-outlet prevent access to live parts. The gauge is applied over the shutter with the gauge face in full contact with the socket-outlet face, and the rigid steel wire is pushed along its axis with a thrust of 20 N. The wire of the gauge shall not touch the live parts or make electrical contact through the shutters. A flexible test lead is fitted so that contact with live parts is indicated by an electrical circuit.
Construction
- Stainless steel gauge body, Ø50 mm outside diameter with Ø30 mm guide opening, body length 60 mm minimum
- Rigid steel probe wire Ø3 mm (+0.03/0) × 80 ± 0.5 mm, tip rounded R0.2 ± 0.05 mm
- Internal calibration spring: with a thrust of 20 N applied on the wire, surface A–A′ is brought practically to the same level as surface B–B′
- Flexible test lead for electrical indication of contact
