Product overview
SANS 164-1:2019 Annex D (normative) gauges D1 and D2, set of two, model SC-S164D-15A. They prove that, while any current-carrying pin of a plug is accessible, it is not possible to make a connection between a plug pin and a current-carrying contact of the socket-outlet – protection against single-pole insertion.
D1 and D2: D1 attempts simultaneous engagement of the earth pin with the neutral pin and of the earth pin with the live pin. D2 attempts engagement of the live and neutral pins while the earth pin is left exposed. The pin spacing differs (D1 29.20 mm, D2 25.40 mm) to match the two incorrect insertion modes.
Test procedure: insert each gauge as described. The gauge shall not fully engage and the indicator lamp between the gauge and both socket contact tubes shall not light. The force applied perpendicular to the gauge shall not exceed 20 N. The tests are made on socket-outlets with fully functional shutters.

- D2: pin spacing 25.40 mm (+0.02 / 0), pin length 21.7 mm (+0.1 / 0), body 29.6 mm (+0.1 / 0) high
- Pin Ø: earth 8.66 mm (+0 / -0.01), current-carrying 7.01 mm (+0 / -0.01)
- Body stamp: SANS 164-1 Annex D D1 (or D2) plus serial number
