Standard: TIS 166-2549 – Thai Industrial Standard for Plugs and Socket-Outlets for Household and Similar Purposes: Plugs and Socket-Outlets with Rated Voltage not Exceeding 250 V. Appendix A of the standard defines the gauges: Figures A.1 to A.5 check the dimensions of the socket-outlet, Figures A.6 and A.7 check the withdrawal force, and Figures A.8 to A.10 are the additional gauges for socket-outlets.

Application

The Figure A.1 gauge verifies that it is impossible to touch a live contact tube of a socket-outlet with a single plug pin. The test is carried out with the engagement face of the socket-outlet in a horizontal position and with all passages open.

The gauge is offered in every possible position of the socket opening. At no position shall a single pin reach the contact tube of the socket. Contact is indicated electrically with a 40–50 V indicator, so any touch of a live part is signalled at once.

Two versions are supplied: a 2-pin gauge for unearthed socket-outlets and a 3-pin gauge for earthed socket-outlets, so that the earth passage can be checked in the same way.

Construction

• Body and pins in corrosion-resistant stainless steel with sufficient mechanical strength
• Mass of the gauge 200 ± 5 g, as required by Figure A.1
• Contact pins machined to the entry-hole layout of the socket-outlet, positions and diameters per Figure A.1
• 2-pin version for unearthed socket-outlets, 3-pin version for earthed socket-outlets
• Flexible test lead for a 40–50 V electronic indicator
